August 29, 1958 perhaps the greatest person to enter the music industry was born. Considering this blog title and the pictures and the current events, we all know who this is. Michael Jackson started his music career with his family band The Jackson 5 when he was 11 years old. He made him and his brothers the first pop group in history to have four No. 1 consecutive hits. Michael went solo from the group and recorded a few successful songs but later returned to the band in 1975. He then made his debut on the big screen with "The Wiz" along side Diana Ross.

Michael always stayed loyal to his brothers even with his solo success. His moon-walk and signature pop locking, set the blueprint for live performance. Not to mention his sense of style. He wore fire-engine red motorcycle jackets, boots, and military-style clothing that have inspired many of today's artists such as Usher, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo and a hell of alot more. Michael Jackson was the first black artist to appear on MTV's network, breaking musics racial barriers. Michael's album "Thriller" is the best selling album of all time. There will never be another!

Michael Jackson won 19 Grammy Awards, and hundreds of other honors despite his inability to escape criticism of his life style and child molestation allegations. On a personal note I'm proud to say that I participated in a performance of Michael's co-written single "We Are the World" with my classmates, which featured Lionel Richie, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, and Tina Turner.

No doubt about it after one of the biggest losses to music due to cardiac arrest today (Thursday, 6/25/09) Michael Jackson will forever reign as the King of pop.
